Samueli Foundation | Breakaway Fund Grant Award
Overview
The Hub OC has been awarded an $82,000 grant from the Samueli Foundation’s Breakaway Fund under the “Expertise” category. This funding will allow us to strengthen our infrastructure by contracting expert services in legal support, accounting, grant writing, marketing, and web development.
This is a one-time, capacity-building investment designed to help The Hub OC grow sustainably, improve operations, and free up internal staff to focus on direct service delivery.
Purpose of the Grant
The Breakaway grant will specifically support:
Legal services to manage leases, liability waivers, partnership agreements, and future expansion.
CPA and accounting services to ensure strong financial systems, audit preparation, and funder compliance.
Grant writing support to increase funding opportunities while allowing our program staff to stay focused on service delivery.
Marketing and communications consulting to improve donor engagement, outreach, and cross-program messaging.
Website and digital support to enhance security, usability, and storytelling across all programs.
These services will strengthen the core operations that support our work with youth, families, and the unhoused community.
Why It Matters
This grant comes at a critical time as The Hub OC experiences continued growth:
400+ youth served daily through the Youth Centers of Orange
2,200 unhoused individuals assisted monthly through the Hub Resource Center
Growth in early childhood programming and workforce development efforts
Increased demand for program expansion across Orange County
The grant ensures that while our impact grows, our internal systems and infrastructure remain strong, professional, and aligned with long-term sustainability goals.
