The Hub Resource Center | Same-Day Solutions Fair a Success!
Finding solutions in one helpful place
Ellie needed services from three different county offices but with a bad right leg, getting to and from these far-reaching locations was difficult. Finding transportation was challenging, getting on and off buses is problematical for the elderly patron.
But Ellie didn’t have to travel far to find answers to her problems that come with being unhoused. She visited the Same Day Solutions Fair at The HRC, where she found everything she needed to help her move closer to stability.
“When she came, she was like ‘Oh my gosh, ‘I was able to contact everybody who I needed to contact, which would have taken me forever because of my injured leg.’ Every person that she needed to talk to, she talked to. It was right here,” said Johnmark Rivera, operations director at The HRC.
The Same-Day Solutions Fair, held Sept. 25, assists people experiencing homelessness on their path to stability, connecting them to service providers all in one place. According to Director of Client Resources Alex Geringer-Pate, the Office of Care Coordination approached city of Orange police chief, the city manager and The HRC about holding a Same Day Solutions Fair. The organization had held two previous fairs in Santa Ana and Lake Forest and was looking to hold these gatherings every other month in Orange County. The HRC, with its enclosed space and facilities, was a natural fit.
By the Numbers
Nearly 250 people visited The HRC, where two dozen vendors were on hand to help with legal issues, health services, public assistance benefits, housing navigation and cell phone service, among others.
Geringer-Pate said one of the most sought out vendor was the Orange County clerk recorder, where the patrons who were born in the county could get copies of their birth certificate, marriage certificate or death certificate of a relative.
“They could just literally go and walk away with it that day,” Geringer-Pate said. “The whole idea of the Same-Day Solutions Fair is that they're bringing solutions directly to people and not just, here's a brochure. It's like, hey, we're actually doing something today.”
The County of Orange Office of Care Coordination pulled together a summary of the successful event.
