Spidey Senses

Comic book passion creates connection.

On August 10th, 2022 the doors to YCO opened as we put on our annual “YCO Talent Show” to end summer camp and kick off the fall after-school program! We had amazing food and various displays of our kid’s talents from art, to singing, photography, baking and so much more! However, our favorite element of the night is the ever coveted role of “hospitality team” that all our kids participate in. One of our older boys, Angel, ended up greeting a donor named James where they connected about comic books. Weeks later James ended up meeting Angel at YCO after school care and gave him a genuine collectible Spider man book. When asked what inspired him to give Angel one of his prized possessions he answered,

I have loved comic books since I was about 8 years old and Angel was so excited to talk about Spider-man. Collecting comics still brings me joy to this day and seeing his excitement made me want to share that with him. I am hoping to inspire Angel to enjoy whatever makes him happy and not to worry about what others think about it.

We love the amazing connections that happen here at the Youth Centers of Orange. Because of donors like James, our kids feel seen, know, and catapulted into living our their dreams by the supportive community around them.
